What is your hometown? Roland

Occupation and company you work for? Business Developer, Woodruff Construction

Do you have a fun fact about your business or something you’re doing at your business that you’re excited about? Woodruff Construction recently became an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company in the fall of 2020. Employee-owned is very exciting for employees!

What is your role with the NEDC and how long have you been involved? I have been involved with NEDC for a year.

What is the most interesting or incredible thing you have learned about local economic development by being involved in the NEDC? Having spent a lot of time in Story County over the years, I see a lot of growth potential. There are a lot of incredible people in the NEDC to help make this happen.

Why do you continue to be involved in local economic development? Why is this an important issue for you? I want to help make my local community better for the present and future; our kids are the future.  

What other involvements do you have in the local community/county?  My family and I organize a charity golf outing every year to support the Ronald McDonald House & Miracle Travel Works. This year will be our third annual event. (Message me for details.)

What are your favorite pastimes/hobbies? Coaching softball and basketball, golf, farming, Iowa football

Who are the members of your family? Wife, Kristi (almost 10 years); two daughters, Raena, 7, and Paige, 6; one son, Nile, 2.

What is something fun about you that only your high school or college friends would probably know? I have a huge passion for agriculture and working on the farm.

If you had only one hour a week to watch TV, what would you watch?  Iowa football or basketball, or golf

What has 2020 taught you? Happiness can be found in the simple things.
