NEDC Board Member Spotlight Q&A with Marc Olson

What is your hometown? Nevada, Iowa

Occupation and company you work for? Broker/Owner RE/MAX Concepts

What is a fun fact about your business or something you’re doing at your business that you’re excited about? We are excited about our new lot listings at the new housing development! It is located just south of town on 11th Street — South Glen Subdivision. It’s a great addition to our growing community!

What is your role with the NEDC, and how long have you been involved? I’ve been involved two years, serving on the land committee.

What is the most interesting or incredible thing you have learned about local economic development by being involved in the NEDC? I’ve learned how willing the City of Nevada and NEDC are to work with new businesses coming to town and how they also work with existing businesses looking to expand in Nevada.

Why do you continue to be involved in local economic development? Why is this an important issue for you? I was born and raised here in Nevada. I have basically lived here my entire life, and now my wife and I are raising our own family here! I enjoy helping out in any way I can with our community to help continue making Nevada a great place to live and work.

What other involvements do you have in the local community/county? I’m also a Board member of the Nevada Community Rodeo and a Kiwanis member. Our business also partners with a local business each month. We enjoy getting the word out about all the great items our local businesses are offering, along with the events happening around us.

What are your favorite pastimes/hobbies? My son has really taken a liking to cattle, so our family enjoys taking care of our little herd together. Our son also attends cattle shows around the state, so our evenings are spent out walking and washing his show cattle, along with taking care of our daughters’ show animals as well. Our family enjoys spending time at my mom’s family’s cabin together with my extended family.

Who are the members of your family? Wife- Amber (15 years this summer!), Cayden- 11, Aubrey- 9, Adalyn- 6.

What is something fun about you that only your high school or college friends would probably know? While attending HVAC Tech school just out of high school, I won the Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa National Craft Championship for “sheet metal” in New Orleans.

If you had only one hour a week to watch TV, what would you watch? It would probably have to be a good comedy or sports.

What has 2020 taught you? 2020 has taught us how to be there for our community. There were many needs that were brought to our attention, so we did our best to help be an asset and fill those needs.
